boys and music

Cause everything here moves so slow"
So one great thing about my crush on Moby is that he has introduced me to new music. Or I should say reintroduced. I used to like Lisa Loeb's music a few years ago (and I was intrigued by the glasses), but later dismissed her as junk pop. And now that I've taken a second look, I can obviously see I was wrong. I can't wait to try out all her music. She is a symbol for everything I want to be. Except I could never be that cool.
Speaking of music, I have noticed a trend when it comes to me, music, and the guys I like. I was a little musically sheltered as a child, and so my trend is to pick up music from wherever I can find it; most usually from boyfriends and crushes. Examples:
--Tortured Artist #1(high school love) brought me to Metallica, Queensryche, Scorpions, and several other cheesy 80s metal bands.
--Tortured Artist #2 (college boyfriend) helped me discover random stuff like The Smiths, Erasure, The Cranberries, etc. (He was fond of making me tapes of his favorite music.)
--There was no Tortured Artist #3. That was as far as I got in the boyfriend arena. But as track records go, #3 should be sometime in the future. Interestingly enough, Moby seems to fit the bill. Not that tortured artist has ever been on my list of top boyfriend traits. It just always works out that way.
nonboyfriends, crushes, and other idiots:
--Pete the creep sort of spurred me on to my U2 fanaticism.
--Mr. D fueled my passion for country music.
--Teacher crush #1 led me to Pearl Jam, John Coltrane, and Dead Can Dance. I miss this guy. He was my English teacher and his words took my breath away. He had a beautiful soul. And he loved music as much as I do. (And yes, there was a teacher crush #2, also an English teacher, but that guy didn't introduce me to new music.)
--Jared from work introduced me to Nick Drake, for which I will forever be indebted to him. (If you have never listened to Nick Drake, remedy that situation immediately. I'm not kidding.)
And I guess that's it for now. Unless I feel like giving a history of how I discovered all the music I listen to. And I probably could, although it would be a long list, with credit given to many friends. I'm in love with good music, and it's hard to forget who brought me what. I was going to say you know who you are, but most likely you don't. Just know that if you know me personally, you were probably the catalyst for me liking some kind of music or other. Or if not, you should! Start recommending your favorite music to me. I'm certain I'll listen.
