"When you think you've had too much
of this life, well hang on"

REM got me through the weekend. Both REM the music group, and also the sleep cycle. This weekend I was pretty much out of commission because of depression.

It was a three-day weekend and I should have taken advantage of all the extra time, but I didn't. I spent most of the three days lying in my bed, sleeping and/or staring at the wall. When I wasn't there, I was in my car blasting REM, singing along to the theme songs of my life.

Mercifully, I am feeling much better now. I hardly remember what the depression felt like. However, I do feel the residue of depression hovering near, waiting to take over again if I let it. I'm not completely cured yet.

Anyway, this entry's main purpose is to let you know that my birthday is tomorrow, and you only have a few hours left to buy me a gift. I'm all about music right now, so I dreamed up some sample gift ideas I would be thrilled to receive. Here they are, in descending order of desirability:

Gillian Welch: Hell Among The Yearlings
Cowboy Junkies: The Trinity Session
Nick Drake: any or all of his albums
Indigo Girls: Rites of Passage
Nickel Creek: their latest
Loreena McKennit: The Book of Secrets
Nanci Griffith: Blue Roses From The Moon
Counting Crows: August and Everything After
Sinead O'Conner: any album--I don't have any of them
LoTR: FoTR soundtrack

Run to your nearest music store right now. There's still time to get it to me. For those of you who think I'm kidding about buying me a present, don't forget to send me an e-card.

Ciao!
